ISLAMIC, Persia (Pre-Seljuq). Qarakhanids (United). Nasr ibn 'Ali, circa AH 383-403 / AD 993-1012. Fals (Bronze, 27 mm, 3.48 g), Ferghana, AH 388 = 998. Within a central dotted circle, ‘khān’ (‘Khan’ in Arabic); around, ‘lā ilāha illā - Allāh waḥdahū - lā sharīka lahū’ (‘There is no deity but Allah, the One, there is no partner to Him’ in Arabic); in the margin, ‘bism Allāh ḍuriba hādhā al-fals bi Farghāna sana thamān wa tham[ānīn wa thalātha miʾa]’ (‘In the name of Allah. This fals was struck in Ferghana in the year 388’ in Arabic). Rev. Citing himself as Ilek in the field, and Tungha-Tegin in the margin, ‘li-llāh / Muḥammad / rasūl Allāh / Īlīk / al-jalīl’ (‘To Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. The glorious Ilek’ in Arabic); in the margin, ‘mimmā amara bihī al-amīr al-jalīl al-muʾayyad al-ʿādil Tunghā-Tikīn’ (‘From that ordered by the glorious amir, aided [by Allah], the just, Tungha-Tegin’ in Arabic).
